At Plymouth Church, we believe that every individual is on a journey towards the discovery of faith. At whatever point you find yourself, we invite you to join us in making Christian Education a vital part of your life’s path. |
From September to June, we offer classes, lectures and film events for members of our church and community. Programs are designed to communicate excitement in Christian education and to encourage people to gather together in joy as they grow together in Christian faith.
Please refer to the Calendar for current class and event schedules and details. Classes Adult Christian Education classes, led by Plymouth lay leaders and ministers, are typically scheduled Sunday mornings and afternoons. Courses explore topics related to the Bible, Christian theology, Christian living, church history and the arts, combining analysis with application of the lesson to our lives and faith. Plymouth classes are also designed to foster fellowship through discussion. Those interested in participating in Adult Christian Education courses may simply join us at the first class meeting, or contact the Church Office for additional information. There are no class fees, unless specified in Calendar listings. The Sunday class after the worship service provides a light sandwich lunch for a nominal fee. Discussions, Films and Other ACE Events Our series of regularly scheduled lectures, discussions and "chats" provide a wonderful opportunity to hear experts discuss a range of topics relevant to our Adult Christian Education curriculum. Past speakers have included Rabbi Serge Lippe of the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue discussing the Book of Psalms; architect Page Ayres Cowley on the theology of church architecture; an interfaith dialogue, “Children of Abraham,” on Christianity, Judaism and Islam; architect Brent Porter on religious architecture; and hymn author Amanda Husberg on favorite hymns. Film screenings, typically related to ACE courses or church holidays, are devoted to movies of special interest to church members and ACE participants. Recent screenings have included such films as The DaVinci Code, Crash, Glory and Luther. Childcare Childcare is offered free-of-charge during Sunday classes through the nursery in the Church House; a reservation is not required. ACE events scheduled at other times typically provide free childcare as well. Parents should call the Church Office to confirm; if childcare is available, reservations must be made at least 72 hours in advance.
