ENRICHMENT CLASS OFFERINGS FOR THE WINTER TRIMESTER
(JANUARY 7 - MARCH 22)
de Puerta a Puerta - Spanish Language and Culture
Mondays | 2:45 - 5:00 pm
Research shows that the many benefits, both cognitive and social, of early exposure to a second language will last throughout a child’s lifetime. Our Spanish enrichment program, taught by a native Spanish speaking teacher from Columbia, offers children the opportunity to fall in love with a different culture: its language, music, and food. By discovering new vocabulary words, games, arts & craft activities, music and movement, children will have the opportunity to experience and learn about the wonderful Hispanic culture.

Roots & Shoots
Tuesdays | 2:45 - 5:00 pm
In this enrichment class, we have started our very own Roots & Shoots chapter. Roots & Shoots is a youth service program created by Dr. Jane Goodall in 1991. Their mission is to foster respect and compassion for all living things, promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs, and inspire each individual to take action to make the world a better place for people, animals, and the environment. This program will include nature walks, mapping our community, animal studies, and more!

Cooking by the Book
Wednesdays | 2:45 - 5:00 pm
Each week we will read a children's picture book that has some connection to food. The references may be obvious, such as in The Gingerbread Man or not so obvious, like Yoko, the story of a girl who brings sushi for lunch. We will then make the food written about in the story and explore if we like it … or not. No matter what, the process of creating and cooking will be great fun. Recipes will be sent home so you can cook them as a family!

In this introduction to classical ballet, dancers will learn all about movement, coordination, musicality, and the basics of ballet that will hopefully lead to many years of dancing and self-expression. This class will be structured as a classical ballet practice with a focus on etiquette and Cecchetti technique, an introduction to the ballet barre, center and cross floor work, and a final dance piece. While traditional ballet attire is not required, dancers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in.

Children naturally love to build and create structures. Wooden blocks and other construction materials change the way children think, stimulate creativity, and sharpen crucial problem solving skills. Each week we will discuss different structures from around the world, and work to recreate these structures using unit blocks, and other building materials.
