FROM TRAUMA TO TRANQUILITY

Lenten Service Project 2017

what?

This Lenten season we continue our work for those who are enslaved and oppressed. Building on Plymouth's past to help those who are in need today, we bring God's shalom to those in our community. Our Lenten Service Project is not about giving things up, but taking things on that matter in the lives of people.

HOW?

Tranquility Kits

We are supporting Sanctuary For Families’ Anti-Trafficking Initiative by answering a request from their social worker: It has been discovered that doing things with your hands stimulates the part of the brain that promotes the healing of trauma. We will be creating special gift bags for the resilient women that SFF serves, containing items that promote tranquility, trauma relief and raise self-esteem.

Included in these kits will be Notes of Encouragement, written by the Plymouth Community at the Fellowship Hours through Lent. We have been told again and again how much these signed, hand-written notes mean to women who are making a truly courageous transition from victim to survivor, navigating the legal system with the help of Sanctuary For Families' lawyers and counselors, often alone and without family support.

Everyone is invited to join us in assembling the kits during Fellowship Hour after the Lay service April 23,  the Sunday after Easter.

Each kit contains:

  • An adult coloring book  (provided by Plymouth's Christian Help Ministry)
  • A pack of gel pens of coloring pencils (include sharpener)
  • Travel sized hand lotion
  • Lip balm
  • Hard candies or mints
  • Pack of tissues
  • (5) individually wrapped herbal tea bags

For an additional touch of tranquility, include:

  • A nice emery board
  • A  pocket book mirror
  • A small pretty notebook

Our Goal is to create 100 Tranquility Kits.

Crafting for a Cause

The children of Plymouth, helped by the Plymouth Youth, are joining in the effort by creating Easter items that will be sold at Fellowship Hour on March 19 & 26. The proceeds will go to GEMS. A representative from GEMS is attending the March 19 Fellowship Hour to answer questions about their amazing work.
