The Christian Help Committee at Plymouth Church serves to encourage member involvement and support charitable giving. Each year, Plymouth distributes approximately $100,000 in endowed and pledged money to local, national, and international charities, as well as providing a number of scholarships to Plymouth Church School. Plymouth aims to match its financial contributions with volunteer support. Church members have been active in Habitat for Humanity, Project Hope, St. John's Bread and Life, Project Reach Youth and the Heights & Hill Community Council. We also take pride in working with the New York Congregational Nursing Center, a health organization that Plymouth helped found. Churchwide fundraising efforts, including such events as our annual Yankee Fair, provide financial resources to help serve our community. The congregation also contributes to a variety of Special Offerings throughout the year, sending aid as disaster strikes. With the support of Christian Help, groups within the church have developed their own charitable projects. One such example is a fundraising effort by the children and families of Plymouth, who are raising money to benefit the Mission School of Hope for Baka students in Cameroon. The Teen Group also participates during its semi-annual mission trip by offering help to underserved communities in such locations as rural Appalachia, Maine and Alaska.
The Christian Help Committee continues to explore new ways to do mission outreach. Our current focus is on building faith-based partnerships with other organizations, both at home and abroad. One opportunity we are developing is a relationship with A Rocha, a Christian nature conservation organization that provides creation care in the Czech Republic.
