ADVENT & CHRISTMAS @ PLYMOUTH 2025

Advent is a journey towards Bethlehem. May we let ourselves be drawn by the light of God made human.

— Pope Francis

Advent is a chance to consider the ways in which we can draw near to the life and light-giving gifts of God—hope, peace, joy, and love.

November 30 | Isaiah 2:1-5 | Draw Near to Hope

December 7 | Isaiah 11:1-10 | Draw Near to Peace

December 14 | Isaiah 35:1-10 | Draw Near to Joy

December 21 | Isaiah 7:10-16 | Draw Near to Love

Advent Sunday Mornings:Watercolor & Poetry | Sundays in Advent (starting November 30), 9:30 AM | Reception Room

On Sunday mornings during Advent (starting November 30), we gather in the Reception Room to listen carefully to Isaiah's poetry. We will study the hopes the prophet named, and through watercolor, we will interpret the text for ourselves. No art experience is necessary—just come with whatever skills you have, for a creative exploration of scripture.

THE CHRISTMAS STORY: Wednesday Morning Bible Study | Wednesdays, December 3, 10 & 17, 10:30 AM | Music Room

We know the Christmas story be heart, but each time we come to it with open minds and thoughtful friends, we can still find something new. During Advent, draw nearer to the story of Jesus’ birth. Join the ministers at Bible Study on Wednesday mornings, to look closely at the text, characters, and songs that make up the hope, peace, and joy of this season.

On December 3, Brett will lead a conversation about Mary’s “Magnificat,” the song that invites us to a different kind of Christmas.

On December 10, Morgan will lead a conversation about the shepherds.

On December 17, Raymond will bring songs from worship to consider God’s enduring hope at Christmas.

This season of the year can be difficult when we are dealing with loss. Some of us have a heart full of emotions unlike those we have known before. The Celebration of Christmas Eve | December 24 | 6:00 PM | Sanctuary

Most of what we do at Christmas is an attempt to feel the warmth of being home.  Even those who have never had a good home carry a vision of Christmas within them.  Christmas is longing to belong.  The desire for home leads us to the manger, where God answers our deepest hopes.

This service will be livestreamed on our Watch Worship webpage.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion | December 24 | 10:00 PM | Sanctuary

We want to find our way to Bethlehem like shepherds to kneel and give thanks.  We long for homemade bread and a cup of cheer.  We need the hope we taste and see at Christmas.
