GRACE FAISON WAY

Section 78. Grace Faison Way

Introduced by Council Member Restler

October 30, 1924 – April 26, 2026
Grace Faison was a member of the Heights Casino squash and social club, a leader at Plymouth Church and supported many non-profit organizations. As head of the Plymouth Garden Committee, she led the reclamation of the Lost Acre, a stretch of land east of the church’s sanctuary. She rescued the half ton 1870s vintage cast-iron bell that once hung in the steeple of Plymouth when it was located at 56 Cranberry Street and she was considered a Brooklyn Heights historian. She supported the Mission School of Hope in Cameroon and raised money to provide food to children in need. She also helped the Clergyman’s Consultation Service on Abortion (“CCS”), a network of religious leaders helping women find safe abortion providers in the late 1960s when abortion was largely illegal. The CCS grew from 21 ministers and rabbis to a national network of 1,400 clergy, helping more than 500,000 women obtain safe, affordable abortions for women in need. She opened her home and provided food, clean rooms and a safe place for women to recuperate.
