FIRE DRILL PROTOCOL

Every morning, Silvia will email the list of which students are on site for that day by class. This happens twice daily - once in the morning, and once mid day. The following personnel will receive this email:

All classroom radios should always be on during school hours and set to Channel One.

Drill Procedure for Monthly Fire Drill

  1. Upon hearing the fire alarm sound, all teachers with their students should make their way to their nearest designated fire exit and leave the building. As soon as the fire alarm sounds, teachers and staff will also hear the following words over the phone and radio systems “Evacuate Evacuate Evacuate”. In the event of a real fire or evacuation incident, whether or not the alarm is sounding, this is the cue to evacuate the building.

  2. Ensure that every teacher/staff member assigned a radio brings their radio with them.

Teachers should do the following in this order:

    • Take a head count of students and teachers

    • Grab the to go-bag located in each classroom, line up the sturdents and move them out of the classroom towards your designated evacuation point.

    • Turn off the room light and close the door upon leaving the room.

    • One at the designated evacuation point, do a second head count and after counting, teachers will put on the vest located in the go-bag.

  3. Upon leaving the building and getting to their designated waiting location, the head teacher for each classroom will communicate via their radio to confirm that they have successfully left the building and a count of the children in their classroom (to ensure that everyone has been safely evacuated). Please note that only one radio can be transmitted at a time. If you hear someone else speaking over the radio please allow a ten second pause before pushing to talk. The following is a language example:

“Blue Room clear. 10 children, all accounted for.”

  4. The Fire Drill Director will check the child count given against that morning’s list and reply, using the following language example

    “Copy, Blue Room.”

  5. The above is done with all classrooms.

  6. Once the fire guards and security on duty have ensured that all Plymouth personnel and students are out of the building, the Fire Drill Director will communicate via radio the following:

“Fire Drill complete. All Personnel and students may now return to the building.”
