“God is the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them—
God remains faithful forever.
God upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,
the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but God frustrates the ways of the wicked.
The Lord reigns forever,
your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord.”
OUR MISSION
We are Plymouth people who have come together in response to what we believe is God’s call to understand, address, and dismantle social, environmental, and racial injustice of all forms. We seek to:
Provide opportunities and a safe environment at Plymouth where we can openly share and discuss topics related to social, environmental, and racial justice
Educate ourselves about the history and continuing presence of injustice in our local and broader communities
Publicly advocate for and find opportunities to serve social, environmental, and racial justice causes in our community
This kind of learning and action comes in many forms, including book discussions, films, speaker panels, museum visits, partnerships with community organizations, volunteer service and activism. We seek to be a platform where Plymouth members who care about social and racial justice are empowered to pursue their work. Anyone is welcome to join us in this work.
Upcoming Events
Justice Ministry: Packing Prison Release Bags | Sunday, June 1, 12:15 PM | Gym
On June 1, our worship will focus on Paul in prison. After worship, we will visit with a representative from the Interfaith Prison Partnership and put together prison release bags for women in New York. We want to assemble 50 lovingly-packed bags of supplies that they will give to women in an especially vulnerable moment of transition. You can help by purchasing supplies off our wish list.
Virtual Prison Visit | Monday, June 2, 6:00 PM | Zoom
In partnership with the Frederick Douglass Project, we will visit with men in prison in Colorado on Zoom. We will again join with friends from Brooklyn Heights Synagogue, and likely several others from around the country. This is a great opportunity to do something especially impactful with your church from wherever you are, even if you’re far from Brooklyn.
Registration ends on May 27. Please complete the visit registration online, then let Lesley-Ann know you are joining.
