HELPING THE HUNGRY DURING COVID-19

Nearly half a million NYC residents have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic which adds increased pressure to the existing food insecurity issues in our city. Food banks in our community are seeing dramatic increases in need. Plymouth people can help support feeding the hungry in our area in these ways:

DONATE MONEY

You can make a direct financial contribution to Plymouth’s mission partners who are feeding those in need:

  • Greenpoint Hunger Program

Greenpoint Hunger Program continues to serve weekly meals and operate a weekly food bank, serving over 700 people in the Greenpoint neighborhood.

  • CHIPS

CHIPS serves up to 350 meals daily to people in need in Park Slope. While CHIPS isn’t able to cook meals inside their cramped spaces during the pandemic, they have reorganized their soup kitchen into a “pop-up” meal pick-up center.

DONATE FOOD AND OTHER ITEMS

If you would like to send much-needed food and hygiene items to organizations, here are those accepting donations:

  • Greenpoint Hunger Program

Greenpoint currently needs bulk feminine hygiene items, protective health items like gloves, face masks and sanitizer, and plastic bags to package individual meals.

  • HOT MEAL INITIATIVE | CHIPS

Sign up to help feed the hungry in Brooklyn this January and February! Due to the pandemic, the traditional CHiPS dine-in soup kitchen is closed, and in its place, the local Brooklyn organization runs Pop-Up at CHiPS, a program that serves takeaway bags filled with hot meals to up to 125 people every day, Monday through Saturday. CHiPS is depending on Plymouth to provide hot meals January 25-30 and February 22-27. End of month is a time when, for many, benefits have run out and the need is the greatest. Volunteer to make or purchase hot one-pot meals or cookies each day. Assigned drivers will pick-up hot food from your home on your chosen day. Learn more on our Plymouth Cares page.
