STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Lectio Divina (Latin for “Divine Reading”) is a traditional Christian practice of prayerfully reading scripture. One text is chosen and read or listened to three separate times, separated by moments of quiet for reflecting, and the listener pays attention to what stands out to them. This way of reading scripture moves us from a head to a heart encounter with the holy text.
Practicing Lectio Divina can be powerful as an auditory experience. When you are ready to listen, click play on the audio recording.
Close your eyes and listen to the words.
Listen to the passage read three separate times. Hold silence to listen for what’s rising up for you in between each reading.
On the first reading, take in the whole of the passage, not paying attention to one thing in particular.
During the second reading, listen for what image or phrase stands out to you.
During the third reading, focus in on and pay attention only to one word that is speaking to you.
Take a breath. Breathe in that word. Breathe out that word. Whisper, “Thank you, God.”
If you feel compelled, you are welcome to write the word, phrase or image that stuck with you on the background paper at the prayer station.
